Story telling:
Comic climate – audience comes in with the expectation that they will laugh (e.g. slapstick comedy, despite the characters exposing one another to extreme violence that would have resulted in death under normal circumstances, they are left unharmed and brings laughter to the audience)
Characters are more complex: It used to be good guy (e.g. superman) + bad guy (e.g. joker) and the good guy would win at the end of the day. However, characters have begun to become much more complex. Heroes like Superman have weaknesses and face inner turmoil rather than being presented as an all powerful omnipotent being. Heroes are not always likeable now either.
Chuck Jones – The evolution of an artist (youtube)
– He creates an expectation but then hits the audience with reality. It makes the audience/people think outside of the box, think beyond what they expect.
– This troupe never runs out as long as you create well thought characters with clear goals. (e.g. daffy duck wants pride/fame, the coyote wants the road runner, etc) we know what to expect from these characters and it creates humour when reality stops them from achieving it.
The sadistic cycle of suffering and seeing bad people fail is funny and entertaining to people.

form = shape, boundaries, filling a mould
The form of films in flicker films was the flicker. The noise created by the projector going through multiple pictures was the essence of the medium. (Peter Kubelka)
